About us

The Practice, which is situated near the centre of the historic market town of Morley, lying to the south of Leeds, dates back more than 60 years.

Dr Maurice Tobias started his Practice in Morley in 1948. Over the course of next four decades he and his Partners came to occupy part of Morley Health Centre. By 1988 with an ever-growing patient list and an administration bursting at the seams there was no alternative but to move.  Under Dr Brendan Carroll a plot was bought and Windsor House Surgery was erected on the corner of Corporation Street and Albion Street.  Since 1994 the Practice has been led by Dr Richard Adams.

To cope with the growth of Dr R J Adams & Partners, Shenstone House Surgery in Churwell was added to the portfolio in 1991. When Adwalton House Surgery was opened in Drighlington in 2004 the current name was adopted to reflect the group status of the Practice.

We are a medium-sized NHS GP practice serving over 15,000 patients in Morley and surrounding parts of south Leeds plus the village of Drighlington on the outskirts of Bradford. The Practice catchment area essentially includes the LS27 and BD11 postcodes:

We have six clinical Partners: Dr Richard Adams, Senior Partner, Dr John Browne, Dr Robert Arnold, Dr Jeanette Turley, Dr Fiona McNeil and Dr Timothy Roberts and a Business Partner, Mrs Wendy Lawson, who are assisted by a 30-strong team of clinical and administrative staff. The Partners practise together as a non-limited partnership.

In 1986 we became an approved NHS GP training practice and over the past 23 years have helped nearly 60 young doctors to gain valuable experience and encouragement to specialise in this generalist area of medicine. These are capable, qualified doctors known as GP Registrars and Foundation Year 2 Doctors and they are happy to see and treat our patients. Each trainee is supported by a nominated Training Partner, namely Dr Adams, Dr Browne, Dr McNeil or Dr Roberts, to ensure that their stay with us is constructive and rewarding.

The Partners are pleased to work closely with the University of Leeds School of Medicine and for many years the Practice has accommodated Year 4 medical students. Since October 2006 we have also welcomed Year 5 students.  Dr Roberts is responsible for the student placements.

A sign of our commitment to training was the incorporation of a dedicated medical library and the provision of two large training suites with state-of-the-art audio-visual facilities into the design of our new surgery building, Adwalton House Surgery.

The building is superbly appointed and has attracted many groups both medical and from outside the profession to use the suites for seminars, conferences and meetings.
